Extended Target Switching V1.2

Extended Target Switching

Adjustable lock-on target switching for controller. Flick the right stick to jump to the next enemy, while small aim adjustments keep your lock. Uses the game’s own switching, tunable in game. Works great with Controller Aim Assist Overhaul.

OVERVIEW
Red Dead Redemption 2 already has lock-on target switching built into the game, but Rockstar left it switched off in Story Mode.
If you simply turn it back on, it becomes almost unusable: the lock jumps to another ped on the tiniest stick movement, so you can never adjust your aim on the target you are locked onto.

This mod turns the game’s own target switching back on, but only when you actually mean it:

A strong push of the right stick while locked on jumps to the next ped in that direction.
Smaller movements keep the lock on the same target, so you can still fine-tune your aim to the head, arm or leg.

No new aiming system, no fake camera movement – it is Rockstar’s own switching, just gated behind a deliberate stick push.

WHY ANOTHER TARGET SWITCHING MOD?
Target switching was already made available before by EnableTargetSwitching (nbk11231) – credit to them for finding it.
That mod simply turns the option on in the game’s file (playertargetting.ymt), so switching is always active and fires on every small stick movement – there is nothing to adjust.

The goal of this mod is to make target switching ADJUSTABLE:

You decide how hard the stick has to be pushed before it switches (SwitchStick)
Small aim corrections never make you lose your target
Tune it live in game with the reload key, no restart needed
Built to work hand in hand with my Controller Aim Assist Overhaul

FEATURES
Right stick flick while locked on = switch to the next target in that direction
Small stick movements = stay locked on the same target and adjust your aim
Adjustable switch threshold
Optional input reset so the switch happens instantly on the push
Controller only – keyboard & mouse is not affected
Reload the settings in game with a key
No game files replaced, no LML folder needed

SETTINGS (ControllerTargetSwitching.ini)

SwitchStick=0.8
SwitchInputReset=1
ReloadKey=K

SwitchStick – how far you have to push the right stick (0.0 – 1.0 of full tilt) to switch targets. Higher = harder to switch, lower = easier. 0.8 – 0.9 feels best for most people.
SwitchInputReset – 1 = the switch happens right away when you pass the threshold. Set 0 if aiming feels a tiny bit jumpy.
ReloadKey – re-reads the ini in game, so you can tune SwitchStick while playing.

RECOMMENDED: CONTROLLER AIM ASSIST OVERHAUL
This mod works on its own, but I highly recommend using it together with my
Controller Aim Assist Overhaul With Target Mod

Aim Assist Overhaul changes where the lock-on aims (Head / Head – Weapon / Weapon / Vanilla, switchable in game).
The two mods were made to work together and they work great as a pair:
lock on, the aim goes straight for the head, flick the stick and you are on the next enemy’s head – fast, smooth controller combat.

When both are installed, this mod reads Aim Assist Overhaul’s current mode and automatically turns switching off in its Vanilla mode.

REQUIREMENTS
ScriptHookRDR2 V2
An ASI Loader (e.g. Ultimate ASI Loader)

INSTALLATION
Copy ControllerTargetSwitching.asi and ControllerTargetSwitching.ini into your main Red Dead Redemption 2 folder.

UNINSTALLATION
Delete ControllerTargetSwitching.asi and ControllerTargetSwitching.ini.

COMPATIBILITY
Do not use together with EnableTargetSwitching (or any other mod that turns switching on in playertargetting.ymt). This mod already enables switching on its own – remove the other one, otherwise switching will be always-on again.
Should work with most other mods, since it only toggles the game’s own switching flag while the stick is pushed.
