I always hated that controller lock-on in RDR2 snaps to the chest, so I made this. With this mod, when you lock on with LT/L2, the game aims at the enemy’s head instead of their body.
Features
Head mode — lock-on goes straight to the head.
Head – Weapon mode — lock-on goes to the gun in the enemy’s hand, so you can shoot it out of their hands. It’s smart about it:
No weapon → head
Weapon holstered → head
Holding a lantern, bottle, lasso, torch or any other prop → head (it only counts real guns and bows)
Gun drawn but they haven’t fired at you → locks on the gun
They’ve fired at you and are still fighting you → head (no mercy)
Weapon mode — lock-on goes straight to the weapon.
Vanilla mode — puts every NPC back to vanilla chest lock-on.
On-screen text shows your current mode when you press the key.
Only affects humans. Animals and horses keep vanilla lock-on, so hunting isn’t messed up.
Hotkeys only work when the game window is in focus.

Controls
Numpad 9 — switch between Head, Head – Weapon, Weapon, Vanilla mode
K — reload the ini in game, no restart needed
Both keys can be changed in the ini.
Make sure Num Lock is ON, otherwise the numpad keys won’t register.
The mod starts in Head mode every time you launch the game.
Settings
ControllerAimAssistOverhaul.ini
ModeKey — key that switches the mode (default NUMPAD9). You can use names like F5, X, INSERT, MOUSE4
ReloadKey — key that reloads the ini (default K)
Requirements
ScriptHookRDR2 V2
An ASI loader (comes with ScriptHookRDR2 / Ultimate ASI Loader)
Playing with a controller and lock-on aim assist enabled (this changes where lock-on aims, so it does nothing with mouse free aim)

Installation
Install ScriptHookRDR2 V2 if you don’t have it.
Drop ControllerAimAssistOverhaul.asi and ControllerAimAssistOverhaul.ini into your main RDR2 folder (next to RDR2.exe).
Launch the game and play.
