Hold Shift to sprint, release it to smoothly walk again no more full stops just to slow down. Doesn’t touch crouching or horseback, fully vanilla there.
The problem
On controller, going from a sprint back to a walk is smooth ease off the stick and you naturally slow down.
On keyboard, it’s not. Vanilla RDR2 works like this: press Shift while moving and you go into a sprint that keeps going on its own. If you want to go back to walking, releasing Shift alone doesn’t do it you have to let go of your movement key entirely, which brings you to a complete stop, and then press it again to start walking. There’s no in-between: you either sprint or you fully stop.
What this mod does
This mod makes sprinting behave like it does on controller: hold Shift to sprint, and as soon as you release it (while still holding your movement key), your character eases straight back into a walk no abrupt stop, no need to let go of movement first.
It only touches on-foot movement. The script automatically detects when you’re crouched or on a horse/wagon and disables itself in those cases, so crouching and mounted movement (including galloping) stay 100% untouched, vanilla behavior.
Why this one
A few other mods out there try to fix the same issue, but tend to run into problems with crouching, horseback riding, or need a more complicated setup. This mod improves on that: it’s a single drag-and-drop file, no configuration needed, and it stays completely out of the way while crouched or on horseback so those stay 100% vanilla.

Installation
Make sure ScriptHookRDR2 is installed.
Drag
SmoothWalkFix.asi
into your main Red Dead Redemption 2 folder the same folder as
RDR2.exe
Launch the game that’s it, no configuration needed.
Uninstall
Delete
SmoothWalkFix.asi
from your game directory.
Compatibility
Since this only touches the on-foot run-to-walk transition (and disables itself while crouched or mounted), it should be compatible with most other .asi mods. If you use another mod that also modifies player movement/animation, test together and report any conflicts in the comments.
