Just a proof-of-concept ASI mod that adds a basic loansharking activity to the game. You pick up debt leads at the Post Office, ride out to find the debtor, and try to collect what they owe, by asking nicely or otherwise.
To receive your letter with the debt collection mission, just go to a Post Office and press the “Receive Letter” prompt.
Should work with any clerk. New letters will be sent every 2 in-game days by default, but you can change it in the file.
There’s also a ‘NonStopMissions’ option. When enabled, a new mission starts immediately after depositing your collection.
All the letters are rendered in real time. As soon as you finish reading the letter, the mission starts automatically.
All the missions were inspired by the vanilla Loansharking missions already in the game. Even though the core loop is the same (confront > collect), each mission can be unpredictable and varied. Some debtor may pretend they’re gonna pay and then pull out a knife, others try to shoot at you over $5, things like that.
In some cases you can find the debtor already deceased, or involved in some sort of altercation with a thug. You can choose to intervene (if the debtor is still alive), or recover the stolen money from the thug himself.
Like stated earlier, this mod draws inspiration from the “Money Lending and Other Sins” missions, so the intimidation loop is very much borrowed from those. You just intimidate the debtor via melee actions, aim a weapon, or threaten them until they pay what they owe.
Once you get the debt (or the valuables), you just take it back to the Post Office to deposit it. There’s also a basic penalty system if you kill a non-hostile debtor who was otherwise going to cooperate.
Your share is withheld until you actually deposit it, so no, you can’t try to get smart and run away with the money.
In some situations, the debtor may try to trick you by “paying” with a fake/low-value bill, to buy time for a getaway.
Within the same locked-door branch, a debtor may refuse to open the door, forcing the player to kick it open.
What the player finds inside can be unexpected and dangerous, such as a shotgun ambush.
If they don’t have the cash (or if you loot their body and find nothing), the script will sometimes let you just seize their horse, some livestock, house furniture, or basic valuables to cover the debt.
Installation is simple, just put everything inside your game’s root folder:
Loansharking.asi, Loanshark.ini, and the lml folder.
The lml stream folder just contains a simple texture for a document, the mod works fine without it.
