Keep Company V1.5

Keep Company

A long-form courtship system for Red Dead Redemption 2’s offline mode.
Adds voice, personality, persistent affection, and intimate moments to thirteen of the game’s most memorable female characters — Sadie, Karen, Mary-Beth, Tilly, Abigail, Molly, Susan, Penelope, Charlotte, Bonnie, Anastasia, Mary Linton, and Black Belle — whenever they’re traveling with you as companions.

Automatic systems
Defend Her Honor: when she takes damage in combat or is
insulted/attacked by an NPC, she reacts and the moment counts
toward your bond. No prompt required — it just happens, the way
it should.
Daily affection decay: companions miss you. Skip a day of
attention, lose a few points. Skip a week and you’ve got real
making-up to do. The decay accumulates across game closures and
even Windows reboots — it tracks real wall-clock days, not
in-game time.
Mood drift: anger fades, excitement fades. Mood naturally
settles back toward neutral over time so a single bad interaction
doesn’t leave her permanently sour. Doesn’t touch the underlying
relationship — just the short-term feeling.

Under the hood

Voice-line driver with 13 individually-defined companion profiles
(each with their own voice bundle, greeting patterns, mood triggers)
Per-companion persistent affection on a 0..1500 scale
Four progression phases (Stranger → Friend → Sweetheart → Lover)
with fully configurable thresholds
Anti-spam interaction throttle — you can’t combo three actions in
thirty seconds to skip past her
Status overlay (**Shift+F8**) showing affection level, mood,
unlocked prompts, and progression phase
Robust save/load handling — survives quick-saves, sleep, fast
travel, and companion respawns
Diagnostic logging for troubleshooting (Romance.log in your TEMP folder)

Voice coverage by character

All 13 companions are fully wired for gameplay — every interaction
(Compliment, Give Gift, Stargaze, Defend Her Honor) has its own
per-companion reaction logic for every character. What varies is the
**voice fidelity** based on what RDR2’s vanilla audio packs actually
contain for each character. We use the engine’s real voice bundles,
not recordings of our own.

Fully voiced

Each of these characters has a dedicated character voice bundle in
the base game with hundreds of recorded lines. Voice playback is
distinct, varied, and unmistakably HER.
Sadie Adler: the flagship. Richest voice coverage in the game,
even more so with the Sadie Adler Project installed.
Mary-Beth Gaskill: extensive camp ambient + story lines
Karen Jones: full camp life and mission coverage
Tilly Jackson: full coverage, distinct delivery
Abigail Roberts: wide range across family/Jack/John dialogue
Susan Grimshaw: authoritative, extensive camp leadership lines
Penelope Braithwaite: distinct voice with substantial suffragist
mission dialogue

How it works

When you target a companion at close range (lock-on with R1/RB, or
center your camera on her), Keep Company recognizes her, focuses
itself on her, and adds the interaction prompts to her ambient prompt
group. Pressing the prompted button triggers the interaction — which
plays contextual voice lines pulled from her in-game bundle, applies
an affection delta, and stamps a per-prompt cooldown.
The Defend Her Honor system runs passively in the background — any
time she takes incoming damage in combat, the engine notifies the
mod and you get a small bond boost (and contextual voice line) for
having her back.
Affection persists across sessions in `%APPDATA%\Romance\state.bin`,
namespaced by your character name so each playthrough has independent
romance progress. Mood is shorter-term and drifts naturally toward
neutral over time. Affection decays gradually if she’s neglected —
the system tracks wall-clock days, so closing the game doesn’t pause
the consequence.
All scaling, cooldowns, gain values, decay rates, and phase thresholds
are exposed in `Romance.ini` so you can tune the pace to your taste.

Prerequisites

You MUST have the following installed and working before Keep Company
will function:
1. **ScriptHookRDR2** by AlexanderBlade — the base RDR2 modding
framework. Required by virtually every script mod for RDR2.
2. **An ASI Loader** — most users get this via Lenny’s Mod Loader
(LML) or as a standalone install. If `vfs.asi` is in your RDR2
folder you’re set.
3. **Female Companions** by Mike9k1 — Keep Company is a behavioral
layer ON TOP of Female Companions. It observes the companions
Female Companions spawns and adds romance, voice, and prompts to
them. Without Female Companions, there are no companions for
Keep Company to interact with.

Recommended (optional)
Sadie Adler Project: adds significantly more voice lines for
Sadie. Keep Company works fine without it (vanilla Sadie lines are
used), but with it installed Sadie sounds noticeably richer.

Installation
1. Confirm all three prerequisites above are installed and tested.
2. Drop `Romance.asi` and `Romance.ini` into your Red Dead Redemption 2
root folder (the same folder containing `RDR2.exe`).
3. Launch the game.
That’s it. The mod loads automatically on game start and activates as
soon as Female Companions spawns a companion you can target.

Configuration

Open `Romance.ini` in any text editor to tune behavior.

Permissions and acknowledgements

Keep Company integrates with **Female Companions** by **Mike9k1**,
and is released with their express permission. No Female Companions
files are modified or redistributed — Keep Company observes their
spawned companions at runtime and adds new behavior on top. Both
mods load independently; either can be removed without affecting
the other.
Huge thanks to **Mike9k1** for granting permission to build on top of
Female Companions, and for years of excellent work that made this
mod possible.

Troubleshooting
If something doesn’t work as expected, check these logs (they auto-
clear on each game launch):
– `%TEMP%\Romance.log` — per-frame mod state, voice triggers, affection
changes, prompt fires
– `%TEMP%\Romance.crashes.log` — append-mode crash history if the
game ever faults
– `%TEMP%\Romance.watchdog.log` — last-known-good state, useful for
diagnosing hangs

Compatibility
Keep Company is designed to coexist with other companion and gameplay
mods. It uses pure observer-pattern integration (no engine patches,
no hardcoded function hooks, no replaced game files), so it should
work alongside anything that doesn’t directly modify Female
Companions’s behavior.
Tested compatible with: Female Companions, ScriptHookRDR2, Lenny’s
Mod Loader, most ambient gameplay mods.
