Real Names for Munitions V1.2

Real Names for Munitions

This mod changes the names of all weapons and weapon brands, both vanilla and added with Munitions, to their real life counterparts. This mod assumes you use the Munitions mod and also the recommended mods on the Munitions page.

wocky727 for his amazing work on the Munitions mod, obviously the only reason this exists.

OVERVIEW OF THIS MINUSCULE MOD

This teeny tiny mod just changes all weapon, brand and weapon compendium descriptions to have the real life nomenclature of each weapon. So no more Lancaster, it is now the Winchester Model 1866; and no more Cattleman, that is the classic Colt M1873. Usually the compendium descriptions list the full name of the weapon, no abbreviations. Ammo and brand names have also been changed to their real life counterparts.

This mod obviously also includes munitions weapons, so the Cowboy Repeater is now the Marlin M1894. The descriptions for the gunslinger revolvers also use their appropriate historical names.

I’ve found it enriches the experience of using the Munitions mod since you slowly begin to be able to tell apart each gun from their design. it’s quite cool to learn the models and brands through gameplay, and later recognize them on pictures or movies.

BUGS AND OOPSIES

Since I have no texture editing knowledge currently, and didn’t want to mess with the catalogue or weapon textures, there will be discrepancies: on the side of the Colt Model 1873 you can still see the “Buck” logo, and the catalogue is filled with references to the original RDR2 weapon manufacturer names.

I am not planning currently to iron out these inconsistencies, since it will complicate the upkeep and development of the mod not just a lot more, but beyond my current skill level. If someone else wants to do it then go ahead.

Additionally, some weapons may be misidentified. As far as I know, all of the brands and models are correct, but I could be wrong. If you see any errors please do report them on the posts section and I’ll get it fixed.

FURTHER HISTORICAL RECOMMENDATIONS

To alleviate the texture inconsistency you can install the vanilla version of Firearm Cosmetics by wickedhorseman, which replaces all of the vanilla pistol and revolver textures (except for the Schofield for some reason…) with real life accurate ones, featuring the proper name brands. You will have to delete the “CSAA” and “Shared” folders in the Firearm Cosmetics mod to avoid incompatibility issues with the textures. Load it after munitions.

If you’re using the Munitions + Catalogue Improvements merge like me, you may have noticed there are 2 navy revolvers which are identical, except for the fact one has more customization options than the other. If you install the Colt Pocket Navy Revolver mod by 5lac8 the one with the least attachments will be turned into a pocket version of the Colt Navy. It’ll give this 2nd version existing a purpose and keep it consistent with the ammo it uses, since the Pocket Colt Navy Model 1862 also used .36 caliber. This mod comes with proper naming for the Pocket Navy out of the box.
