This Immersive Horror mod adds deadly Graboids to New Austin and Lemoyne, especially during dust storms. Hunting through sound, they listen for gunfights, heavy rolling wagons, and high speed horse running. All configurable in the Ini file as well as a plethora of other options. If you feel the ground trembling and the distant crunch of dry digging then it can hear you. Be careful! Stay Still! Don’t Shoot! It’s coming for YOU!
This enemy is designed to be fair, balanced, and unobtrusive to a normal playthrough while still providing an extra layer of depth and horror to the dry plains, swamps, and deserts.
Advanced Hunting
Graboid’s will wander around once they’ve been summoned by noise and listen for anything moving or shooting, but just because one is searching for you doesn’t mean you’re doomed! It will appear as an enemy with a big green dot on your map. The Graboid uses a confidence system to target and search for the loudest or fastest moving creature in range. It can be drawn away from searches by gunfire. You will see and hear distant rocky explosions as it breaches the ground to feed on humans and wildlife alike using multiple different executions. Look toward the digging sound and search for it. You will see it approaching with dust clouds and debris bursting from the ground as it leaves behind a trail of dirt. Tip toe if you have to but be careful! get far enough away and you can escape…. If you’re lucky.
Once the Graboid gets in range of the player, a special “player search” mode begins, you will know it by the way it growls at you under the dirt. Stay still, but be careful, it might come straight for you! Dive out of the way or take a few tiny steps to avoid it without giving away your position. Cross your fingers that someone nearby gets eaten instead or that it gets distracted by a shooting enemy. Of course, if you have explosives thats another story… maybe you can blow up those Mother Humpers!! Evade it long enough and it will give up and move on, but you arent safe until the ground stops shaking.
Switch to the bow or use thrown weapons when its coming in order to not draw its attention. Let the enemies seal their own fates, (you might even catch a glimpse of the beast itself 😉 but it won’t kill everybody, it can only eat so many people after all. This mod will drastically change how you must behave during firefights if a Graboid is present, that is why they are uncommon and wont come to every gunfight.
Graboids CAN AND WILL EAT YOU so take them seriously if you realize one is coming. Hopefully it attacks someone else first.
You do have other options though, if its coming for you run as fast as you can to a big rock or something else high up. Jump into some deep water, off a cliff, or get on a bridge. Got faith in your horse or wagon? Maybe you can outrun it, but it will be a tough race. The Graboid will pull your camera towards it the more scared your horse gets, and if your bond isnt high enough your horse might get scared enough to throw you off. GRABOIDS WILL NOT KILL YOUR HORSE. They just knock you off and attack you directly. the only way it could kill your horse is if it falls off a cliff when you get thrown or if an npc is riding it.
If you’re driving a wagon it will keep smashing into you trying to break your wheels or eat your horses and force you out, get somewhere safe quick!
Graboids will not go to Saint Denis. You can flee to it for safety if its close. Graboids are smart and adaptive, they know attacking the city would bring too much attention.
Configurable Immersion
Every aspect of the mod is configurable to ensure maximum immersion and compatibility with different computers and FFFFFFFFF error protection safeguards. This is meant to be a RARE EVENT like getting attacked by a cougar or bear. by default dont expect to encounter them more than once an hour. Sometimes it will come during small gunfights, sometimes it wont during big ones, you never know until the ground starts shaking.
If you want to test it set the noise meter chance to 100% and empty some duel wielded pistols in lemoyne (not near Saint Denis) or New Austin..
By default Graboids will not spawn/will despawn during missions and cutscenes but you can turn that off if you want more chaos. Want Graboids to spawn all over the world? Turn off the area restriction. Graboids not spawning enough? Turn up the percent chances. Want it to eat more people? Adjust the max victims. Not deadly enough? Increase the lethality chance. Adjust the confidence building parameters, the execution type chances, and camera shake. Running out of memory and getting FFFFFFFF errors? Turn on the auto throttle or manually reduce particle effect and object spawns in order to keep it reliable and functional for your individual situation.

Compatibility: Most likely compatible with everything. Everything in this mod is self contained and read only with the exception of the when it is killing something it forces ragdoll and adds velocity. I have had about 70 mods installed on my system throughout this mod’s development including PDO, AMJM, Seasons and dozens of others and have not had any noticeable conflicts.
