A historic Subaru Impreza 555 Group A livery from the 1994 World Rally Championship season, the first full WRC campaign for the Impreza. Subaru entered the year with Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae as its main drivers, continuing the rapid development of the car that had debuted only the previous season.
The Impreza 555 became a genuine championship contender in 1994. Carlos Sainz gave the model its first WRC victory at the Acropolis Rally, while Colin McRae added victories in New Zealand and on the RAC Rally in Great Britain. Subaru scored three outright wins during the season and finished 2nd in the Manufacturers’ Championship with 140 points, only 11 points behind Toyota.
The 1994 season transformed the Impreza 555 from a promising new rally car into one of the leading machines in the World Rally Championship. Its combination of Prodrive development, Subaru’s four-wheel-drive platform and the speed of drivers such as Sainz and McRae laid the foundations for the championship-winning success that would follow in 1995.
