In the 2009 season, Petter Solberg (2003 World Rally Champion) competed in the World Rally Championship (WRC) with his own private team (Petter Solberg World Rally Team) after the sudden departure of the factory Subaru team at the end of 2008. He finished in 3rd place at the Cyprus Rally. This was his first podium finish with his own team.
