Universal RDR2 String Translator – Multi-Language Translation V1.1

Universal RDR2 String Translator is a standalone, language-independent ASI for loading custom RDR2 translations.
It was created as a more robust replacement for the older Red Dead Redemption 2 – String Translator by NexusMods user charlesherman1337.
Originally developed for my Danish Translation.

⚠️ IMPORTANT
URT does not automatically or machine-translate the game.
It loads existing or custom files ending in: Translation.xml
Only ONE Translation.xml should be active at a time.
Do NOT use the old rdr2-translator.asi together with URT.

ℹ️ OTHER LANGUAGES
Other Translation.xml files may also work, but languages not listed above have not been verified enough for me to guarantee complete font/layout support.
Arabic, Persian and Hebrew additionally require right-to-left/contextual text handling.

Older translations made for the original String Translator can generally be used with URT.
Simply rename:
rdr2-translator.xml
to a filename ending in:
Translation.xml
Example:
Turkish Translation.xml

⚠️ OLD TRANSLATION PACKS
Use the translation XML only.
Do NOT install the old rdr2-translator.asi.
For the Turkish translation linked above, URT v1.1 also replaces the old fontfix.asi, commonx and COMRDR2 setup.

📦 REQUIREMENTS & INSTALLATION

URT requires an RDR2 ASI Loader:
ScriptHookRDR2 / ASI Loader
For URT you only need:
dinput8.dll
Place these files next to RDR2.exe:

dinput8.dll
UniversalRDR2StringTranslator.asi
Your Language Translation.xml

Example:
Spanish Translation.xml
The language name itself does not matter. The filename simply needs to end in:
Translation.xml

⚠️ Only ONE active Translation.xml should be present at a time.
Do not use rdr2-translator.asi together with URT.

✍️ CREATE YOUR OWN TRANSLATION

The download includes the complete:
English Translation.xml
Use it as a template:

Make a copy of English Translation.xml
Rename it, for example: German Translation.xml
Translate the English text inside the XML
Place the translated XML next to RDR2.exe
Start the game

⚠️ IMPORTANT WHEN TRANSLATING

Read the included Translation Guide before editing the XML.
Translate only the actual text.
Do NOT modify:

String IDs
XML structure
Rockstar formatting/control tags

Examples of Rockstar tags:

~INPUT_…~

Changing IDs, tags or the XML structure can cause:

Missing text
Broken prompts
Incorrect UI text
Strings failing to load

🔌 MOD TRANSLATION API

URT can also provide translations for other RDR2 mods through the optional URT API v1.
Translations can be distributed separately as:
*.urt.xml
Mods keep their original text as fallback if URT or a translation pack is not installed.

The separate Mod API SDK under Miscellaneous Files contains the headers, documentation and examples needed to add URT translation support to another mod.
