The Scariest Most PARANOIA INDUCING Horror mod on Red Dead 2. Each town remembers your crimes. Watch your back. Anyone could be out to kill you.
Spoiler shows timestamps for Killer appearances in the video
This mod adds Hitmen, Assassins, and Dirty Cops that all behave in unique ways and are contracted independently. Gone are the days where the only consequence for slaughtering half the town is being called a scoundrel the next time you come by. Now the people not only remember you for weeks, but they do something about it.
This mod is designed for both honor play styles and is meant to be a playthrough long town relationship system for the good guys and a dread inducing sense of being always watched for the bad boys.
The more people you murder in a town, the more they seek vengeance. The next time you come back then someone may be acting a bit strange. Do you notice that it seems like the same guy is lingering in the distance following you through town? When you look at him he walks off or lights a cigarette… maybe he sits on a bench. You are probably just imagining things right? Right?!
No.
He is a hitman. Stalking you. Waiting for the moment you are alone so he can strike. Hiding behind buildings or blending in, stepping off screen when you’re looking… and sneaking up closer when you aren’t. There are many things that can happen if he catches you, but the Worst Part is… Most of the time you’ll never know they were there… Continuing on your merry way while they lie low and wait for a clean opportunity next time you show your filthy face.
Hitmen are generally not professionals, but rather the town tough guy, a passionate loved one of a person you killed, or maybe a small time outlaw someone had enough meager change to hire. Kill someone’s wife and the guy might have nothing to live for. He might just try to kill you in front of everyone.
If you attack or kill a hitman that is stalking you the law might put the blame on you. Scare him off if you can, but he might come back when you drop your guard. If you want to kill him you have to do it in secret just like he does.
Killers are not omniscient and do not always know where you are. They must search for you at the same time as they try to hide from you.
Knife execution – Similar to the night folk they run up to you when you are alone brandishing a knife to try to execute you
Cattleman Attack – Like the knife execution but they shoot you with a cattleman at range which may subject them to being gunned down by police.
Public shotgun execution – Too enraged with grief to think straight they try to get up as close as they can before opening fire with a sawed-off.
Molotov Execution – starts throwing molotovs.
Strangulation – They tackle you from behind and strangle you to death on the ground with a minigame to escape before you die.
Are You An Outlaw? So Are They.
Players with bounties may be subjected to the ire of dirty cops taking the law into their own hands. Perhaps you killed their partner. Perhaps they just care about the money they’re being offered to kill you. In any case the Dirty Cops will find you in the wilderness. Look behind you on the trail… is that guy on his horse following you or are you just crazy? Is that fella trotting up behind you going a little fast and looking a little sketchy or is it just a passing citizen? That bump on top of the hill up ahead kind’ve looks like a man… is that a long rifle? no… It couldn’t be.
But it is.
Its a Dirty Cop and he wants you dead. Dirty Cops have their own unique confrontations to those of the hitmen. They do not want witnesses, they ride horses. They attack hard and fast without mercy, and they might just tie you up and take you away.
This spoiler shows the different types of Dirty Cop ambushes.
Dynamite Ambush – This cop will only confront you if you let your guard down and stop. Want to go fishing or pick some flowers? There is a man far in the distance getting off his horse and slowly sneaking up behind you with dynamite in his hand.
Riding Shotgun – This cop is angry and ready to get it over with. As soon as he thinks you are alone out on the trails he will ride full speed right up to you and open non-stop fire with a shotgun.
Sniper Nest – The most deadly of the three. He will set up a sniper nest high up and far down the road from you. With massive range, enhanced damage, and tranquilizing bullets he will try to incapacitate you for capture. Watch helplessly as he runs up to you while you writhe on the ground and pulls out his lasso. If you can get close enough to see his face he’ll abandon the job and run off so you can’t rat him out.
Assassins Are Professionals
If you are truly harassing a town and killing many citizens then their vengeance may become so extreme that they come together as a community to hire an assassin. Once an Assassin is contracted he is no longer tied to the town. You never know if he is in the area watching and waiting to kill you or if he is dormant doing preparation for his next opportunity.
If an Assassin is after you, you are never safe. He will hunt you across the entire world until one of you is dead.
He could be any citizen in any town or on any horse riding around you, although his model will not change once contracted so you may learn to recognize him or her as they seem to appear everywhere you go off to the side, carrying hay or feeding the chickens… seeming to stare at you for just a moment when you turn around before they blend into the crowd. See Shadows sprinting between buildings down the street.
They can attack with any of the types the other two killers can use as well as another especially stealthy method, and the consequences of being captured can be quite dire.
An assassin will maintain the same model every time he spawns until he is killed or he kills you, but the attack method can change each time he appears whether you let your guard down long enough for him to strike or not. There are many different assassin models that can be contracted. Multiple assassins can be pursuing you at once originating from different towns or if a town you wont leave alone is able to save enough money to hire another killer.
The likelihood of an Assassin attack spawn is tied to the percent of Vengeance the town of origin had when the Assassin was contracted.
So if a town has 100% vengeance against you when they contract an Assassin then there will be a 100% chance of the assassin spawning every time an opportunity is rolled. (default is around every 15 minutes). Many times you will never know that he was following you at all.
Vengeance system
Each individual town tracks how much chaos you cause. The more people you kill, the higher the vengeance meter goes. This increases the likelihood of a hitman or assassin being contracted. The higher the vengeance meter gets, the more likely it is that an Assassin gets contracted instead of a hitman. The mod creates two .dat files (hitmen.dat and assassins.dat) the first time you run it that track the vengeance meters for each town and the active assassin contracts between saves and loads.
The vengeance meter only decreases by 0.25% every in game hour so that after a mass murder spree it will take weeks for the town to be safe again unless they hire an assassin. Towns will, however, eventually forget about you if you stay away. Every time you kill a civilian the vengeance meter increases by 5%. This means every time you enter the town there will be a 5% chance of a killer spawning. if that spawn roll succeeds then there will be a 5% chance of the killer being an Assassin with the remainder being a hitman. If the town decides to hire an Assassin then the town vengeance resets to 0% as they have handed off the responsibility to the Assassin and they can’t afford to hire anyone else for a bit.
Since each town tracks its vengeance independently you can have multiple Assassins contracted to kill you at the same time.
You can see the contracts and vengeance meter percentages in the .dat files that are created in the main game directory the first time you run the mod.
Have They Captured You? It’s Not Over Yet
If you are captured by an assassin or a dirty cop they will hogtie you and take you to their camp where they have a quick discussion about the contract with the client who hired them before they exchange the money and you are executed. During this discussion you have a random amount of time to escape your bonds and take them out or escape.
The way it works is this.
HOW TO ESCAPE (Applies to being hogtied at a camp or being strangled by a killer)
1. You need to press 3 buttons in the correct sequence to escape. The sequence is random every time.
2. These buttons are the “Reload” “Loot” and “Jump” buttons and work with the keyboard or controller.
3. Each button may repeat up to four times in a row. Example: Jump, Jump, Jump, Mount, Reload, Reload, Mount.
4. the sequence is 7 inputs long if you are hogtied. (4 if you are being strangled). Each time you press a correct button then the poisoned screen effect will lessen or there will be a flash of light if you are being strangled.
5. Each time you press an incorrect button the sequence and screen effect reset.
6. quickly discover and execute the full sequence to escape before you are the one executed.
HOGTIED ONLY
The game naturally allows you to escape being hogtied by spamming the on screen escape input and you are welcome to do this, although it takes a long time and you will still need to solve the button sequence to clear the poisoned screen effect.
you may also hold give up which WILL KILL YOU. NOT RECOMENDED
Configurable .ini File Lets You Customize It All
The mod comes with an ini file that allows you to modify the likelihood of each spawn and each attack type as well as how often the spawn roll chance happens and many other things to make it feel exactly how you want.
Debug Testing Mode
Due to the nature of the mod and its emergent behavior, it can take quite a long time to experience its effects which is what creates the paranoia and horror. However, in order to ensure that the mod is working for you there is a Testing Mode option in the .ini file that allows you to spawn each type of Killer (G to cycle types, J to spawn) in order to see their attacks and behavior to prove the mod is working for you or to play with them on command. This mode has on screen text that provides much information about the Killers and their current behavior state machines, as well as vengeance percent’s per town as you walk into them and additionally it reveals every randomized escape code when you are captured. The on-screen text can be disabled with the H key; allowing you to have control without your visuals being majorly disrupted. Press the letter O to hot-reload the ini. Hot-Reload means the changes you’ve made and saved can be tested without restarting the game. The on-screen text will indicate that the ini file has been re-read. Debug mode will also show the killer on the minimap as well as their intended destination while they stalk closer to you which is shown as a red waypoint X. This is just to be used for fun or testing and is turned off by default.

Compatibility
By all means it should be compatible with everything. it does not overwrite or affect the behavior of normal npcs or police, only the killers that it spawns. if anyone has compatibility issues please report them on the bugs tab.
This mod spawns npcs with multiple complex and interacting behavioral state machines that react differently depending on circumstances. I IMPLORE YOU to consider reporting any behavioral oddities in the bug tab so i can fix them up.
