A historic Subaru Impreza 555 Group A livery from the 1996 World Rally Championship season. After the title-winning success of 1995, Subaru entered the new campaign as defending Manufacturers’ Champion, with Colin McRae, Kenneth Eriksson and Piero Liatti forming the core of the works team.
The Impreza 555 remained one of the fastest cars in the championship. Colin McRae won three rallies — Acropolis, San Remo and Catalunya — while Subaru collected nine podium finishes across the season. McRae finished 2nd in the Drivers’ Championship, behind Tommi Mäkinen, with Kenneth Eriksson 4th and Piero Liatti 5th.
Subaru also secured the 1996 Manufacturers’ Championship, continuing the team’s dominant mid-1990s run. The season further cemented the Impreza 555 as one of the defining cars of the Group A era, combining Prodrive development, Subaru’s four-wheel-drive system and a driver line-up capable of fighting for victories on every surface.
